Self-Awareness.

You have to accept yourself and go all in on who you are. ~Gary Vee

You might not like who you are, but if you don’t know it, you’ll live your life in denial and can never really win, because you’ll keep spinning your wheels.

For example, you can keep saying you’ll write a novel someday, but if you’re a people person, total extrovert and can’t sit still for 15 minutes, you might be a lot better off just organizing public readings for other writers, because that’s where you’ll shine.

If you don’t know, round up your closest family members, friends and loved ones, and let them tell you who you are.

2. Responsibility.

Everything in life is on you. ~Gary Vee

A lot of stuff goes wrong for every single one of us. Maybe your dad was a drinker, maybe your mom left when you were 5 years old, maybe you had an accident and since then your nose looks weird.

Just because these things are outside of your control doesn’t excuse you of dealing with them. You are 100% in charge of your own life, and how you react to what happens is all on you, whether you like it or not.

If you always take responsibility, even for the shit that’s not your fault, you’ll automatically focus on what you can do, which will make you way happier.

3. Acceptance.

Complaining has an ROI of zero. Always. ~Gary Vee

If you take responsibility, you can’t complain. Doing things and complaining is almost worse than not doing things without complaining.

Think about it. Every second, your reality changes. It might change in a way you like or in a way you don’t like. But the moment you lose a client, miss the bus or get a rejection email, your old reality is gone.

If you can accept it instantly and deal with the new reality at hand, you’ll move ten times faster, instead of lamenting the situation and wishing for your old reality back.

4. Regret-Minimization.

Regret REALLY sucks. And once you have it, you can’t do shit about it. ~Gary Vee

If you’re reading this, your chances of living to be 70, 80, 90 years or older aren’t that bad. But when you’re that old, you won’t be able to run around, learn Kung Fu or build a company.

Failure sucks, but regret is worse. In the end, we’ll only regret the chances not taken, words not spoken and opportunities not used. Try to minimize it every chance you get.

5. Impatience.

You act like mortals in all that you fear, and like immortals in all that you desire. ~Seneca

Don’t wait until tomorrow. Don’t make resolutions for January 1st. Make resolutions for TODAY. You can make a change any day of the year. When I started Four Minute Books I began writing daily content 3 weeks before launching it.

Tomorrow becomes “soon”, which is just another word for “never,” faster than you think.

6. Patience.

Infinite patience gets you immediate results. ~Unknown

Didn’t I just say impatience? Yes. The key here is to hold two opposing ideas in your head at the same time. Gary does it all the time. Both of these are equally important. Why?

Because once you flip the switch to not waiting and starting to DO things today, you can leave the gear in hustle, but now have to wait for your results to kick in - and that might take forever.

So be impatient short-term, but super patient long-term, and you’ll get what you want soon enough.

7. Gratitude.

You’ve already won the lotto. ~Gary Vee

You’ve been given an incredible gift just by being alive and breathing right this second. The odds of becoming a human, as opposed to an animal, a plant, or a pair of sneakers, are 1:400 TRILLION. Act like it.
